Madeleine completed her Bachelor of Arts majoring in Anthropology and French Language and Culture at the Australian National University graduating with First Class Honours in 2019. Her Honours project explored fan behaviour, media and politics at the 2019 Women’s World Cup. She is interested in the dynamics of science, medicine and technology in sport, from grassroots to elite programs, and the proliferation of biometric data collection by sporting institutions and individuals.
Her PhD project on women’s football (soccer) draws on anthropology and science & technology studies to investigate how knowledge about athletes and their performance is produced, shared and acted on in elite environments. Madeleine holds a Goalkeeping B Diploma and has coached, worked and played across all levels of football. These experiences motivate her research focus on how people, institutions and technologies interact within contemporary sport.
